What is Jeuveau®?
Jeuveau® is also called “Newtox” because it is a newer version of BOTOX®, one of the first and most well-known injectables. Like BOTOX®, Jeuveau® is FDA-approved and used to treat wrinkles, but there are some differences when it comes to the type of wrinkles each injectable can best treat
Jeuveau® vs. BOTOX®
Both Jeuveau® and BOTOX® use botulinum toxin A, a safe neurotoxin that relaxes the muscles to smooth the appearance of the skin. BOTOX® was first approved for cosmetic use in 2002, over ten years before Jeuveau®’s approval in 2019. Although these injectables both use the same active ingredient, the formulas are slightly different, so people sometimes respond better to one or the other.
Botox can treat glabellar lines, more commonly known as frown lines, between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead lines, and wrinkles at the corners of your eyes called crow’s feet. Although BOTOX® works well, Jeuveau® was approved to solely treat glabellar lines so it may be the more effective option. In two separate trials conducted by the FDA, 67% and 71% of people saw significant improvement in the appearance of their glabellar lines after Jeuveau® treatment. Jeuveau® is also cheaper, making it a great starting option if you are new to facial injections and fillers.
What to Expect?
One of the benefits of non-invasive injections is that there is no need for downtime or recovery! The only thing you should be cautious about is rubbing the injection site since this can shift the filler and increase the risk of side effects. The most common side effects are bruising and swelling, but these should resolve within a few days. If you are satisfied with your results, you can return every 3-4 months as the effects naturally wear off.

Are there any side effects?
Injection site reactions may occur post-treatment. These side effects are normal and should subside naturally within 48 hours. Such side effects may include headaches, pain, bruising, redness and swelling. We recommend for our patients to avoid rubbing the treated area or laying down during the first few hours post-treatment.
Jeuveau® is not recommended for individuals who present with a neurological problem as well as women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoiding blood thinners, such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen and alcohol, for a few days prior to treatment, may lessen the chance of bleeding and bruising.
