What is Micro-Needling with PRP?
Automated Micro-Needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT) is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for treating the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and improvement of the skin’s overall appearance. It is also known as the “Vampire Facial.”
During this procedure, the a MicroPen is used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to produce collagen and elastin. The skin’s repair process results in improvement of the appearance of softer wrinkles. It is the perfect treatment for acne scarring and hyperpigmentation.
PRP (platelet rich plasma) works by utilizing your own natural platelets to instruct the body to create new collagen for smoother and better texture & toned skin. Utilized in various ways, the platelet solutions can be introduced with injections or by using an automated microneedling system or as a topical addition to resurfacing. PRP can also be injected with small needles around eyes and mouth to improve fine lines.
Automated micro-needling also creates superficial micro-channels which can be used with topical gels, creams and serums to help improve the appearance of the skin.
What are the benefits?
The benefits of micro-needling & PRP include a reduction in the appearance of fine lines, and wrinkles, giving the appearance of younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging.
Eclipse MicroPen™ may also has a positive effect on the appearance of hyper-pigmentation, hypo-pigmentation, acne scars, traumatic scars, stretch marks and generally creates a fresher appearance or glow to the skin.
What areas of the body can be treated?
Eclipse MicroPen™ with PRP can be used on all parts of the body, including the: face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.
How is the procedure done?
The skin before procedure is numbed with topical lidocaine for 10-15 minutes.
The blood is then drawn for PRP.
A sterile cartridge containing 12 points is attached to the Eclipse MicroPen™.
A thin layer of hyaluronic acid is applied to the skin to provide appropriate glide for the pen. The trained esthetician will select the appropriate pen setting based on your unique needs.
Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered.
After the treatment a layer of PRP is applied topically and/or injected according to your individual needs.
Why platelets rejuvenate skin?
Platelets are the cells in the blood that help tissue to heal and grow new cells. The PRP, injected into specific areas of the skin, act as a matrix that promotes your own collagen to grow, regenerates tissue, and thus acts as to naturally smooth and tighten the skin. In this way, PRP softens wrinkles and creates a smoother skin texture.
PRP therapy can be combined with laser treatments & fillers.
What does it feel like?
The feeling associated with the Eclipse MicroPen™ is similar to light sandpaper being moved across the skin.
While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating tip reduces discomfort while the applied hydrating gel also makes the treatment more tolerable.
How long does the procedure take?
The procedure takes 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the area treated.
What is the downtime?
Immediately after the treatment you will notice a bright redness to the skin.
The total healing time depends on the Eclipse MicroPen™ setting used and the number of overlapping passes performed. On average, patients are red up to 2 to 4 days. Many patients heal completely in as little as 24 hours.
When will I see the results?
Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results can continue to improve up to 6 months after a treatment as collagen production continues.
How many treatments will I need?
Some patients only require a single treatment once per year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of treatments spaced about 4-6 weeks apart.
For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars it is recommended to receive 6-8 sessions at 4-6-week intervals.
