Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that helps to naturally generate higher levels of collagen and elastin in the skin. It provides a softer appearance and addresses multiple signs of aging in all skin colors and skin types. Many people choose microneedling in Largo because it is cost efficient, natural and effective for use on all areas of the face and body.

Procedure

During a Largo microneedling procedure, we first cleanse the skin and apply a topical numbing cream. Using several sterile, minute needles attached to a small pen-like wand, we create tiny punctures in the surface of the skin. Old tissues are broken down through this process, and the skin is naturally stimulated to produce new collagen and elastin fibers. We also administer platelet rich plasma (PRP) to help accelerate collagen production and aid in the healing process. The result is fuller, smoother skin and a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.

Recovery and Results

There is very little downtime associated with Largo microneedling treatments – usually just some redness and mild swelling that subsides after 1 to 2 days. Patients may also notice slight pinpoint bleeding immediately after the procedure. However, microneedling is very safe and gentle enough to address problem conditions in even the most sensitive areas of the skin, including around the eyes and on the backs of the hands.

Treatment results begin to appear within 1 to 2 weeks, with results gradually improving over the course of several months. Most patients will notice improved skin tone and texture, as well as more even pigmentation. Over time, increased collagen in the skin helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines, old scars and stretch marks, and loose skin begins to tighten.

Risks

Microneedling is safe and effective when administered in a medical office. At-home versions of micro-needling should be avoided. Without the care and oversight of a board-certified physician, a person runs the risk of infection and other complications attempting to do this procedure at home.

Medical microneedling is safe for nearly all skin types and skin colors, though some people should avoid the procedure. Generally, we do not recommend microneedling for people with open skin wounds, a history of poor-healing wounds, or people with any type of active skin infection.
